Last Friday, I returned to the Hopi Reservation for the second time to run the Water is Life 50K. Prior to last year, I had never visited this part of Arizona, even though I have lived here my entire life! It is a beautiful, mountainous drive that drops a bit in elevation as you hit… Continue reading Paatuwaqatsi: Water is Life 50K
It is already known that we grow when we step outside of our comfort zones, but I also think it is important to take a moment and look back on that personal growth. When we reflect on where our journey has taken us thus far, we can better figure out what is working or where… Continue reading #ActiveLivingChallenge Recap
What a busy week! Two of my three kids started school this week plus I had many volunteer responsibilities that I had to fit in. What a fun week!! One of my favorite things about a challenge is that it makes me more aware of all the amazing things I do to balance my life and take care of myself! I’m always in search of ways to improve my fitness. This is me at the South Rim after completing my second R2R2R!! Although I had suffered a knee injury in the weeks prior to this run, I had an amazing adventure!! I had not planned this trip, but couldn’t pass it up when the opportunity came my way!!
Surprisingly, my knee didn’t feel any worse running down into the Grand Canyon down South Kaibab Trail, so I continued on to the North Rim and back!! Beautiful scenery and making new friends along the way makes runs like this fall into the “epic” category!! It took us 19 hours to complete the double crossing due to some injuries…but in the end, we did it!! If you decide to go run as a group, you’re only as fast as your slowest runner. It’s a mutually respected mind-set that will carry you through.
Highs like this are hard to come down from and it makes you eager to head back to the Canyon for more epic adventures!! I plan on doing this again in October! If it is something you are considering, train properly and go for it!! It is an unforgettable experience in one of the most beautiful places on this Earth!!
